Pain Redeemed – Review and Giveaway

Pain Redeemed by Natasha MetzlerthickpaperbackfrontIt seemed ironic to be reading a book about infertility while sitting beside my crying baby. I was tired, hot, my hair needed to be washed and I was frustrated with Gabri?l for whining instead of just falling asleep like a sensible baby.

Reading Pain Redeemed is taking a journey with Natasha. How God heals her from being broken, depressed, hopeless and alone to being new, whole and fully alive in Him. This isn’t some victorious account of someone who went through it, crossed the finish line of the struggle, and now tells about it. (although those kind of stories can also be a big encouragement to read!)

?”…I know that place.I’ve lived there. I came out of there. And I still slide back there far too often.”

– Natasha Metzler in Pain Redeemed –

You can overcome a struggle while still struggling. You have to come back again and again to His
feet. Surrender. Let Him use you for His glory. Because it is all about Him and not about us.

Although Natasha’s story is one of infertility, this book is incredibly touching for anyone dealing with pain in their journey.

Because its about the heart and what is in it.
“Oh, God…my crying heart can’t help but ask..if You won’t even heal this little thing then how do I know that You’ll even save me from my sins?’
11 days later
“Well, Lord, here we are again. Me with all my sin and uglines..searching for You, Your blood and forgiveness.
I know that You’ll hear me, answer me. Give me peace. But it doesn’ seem like You should.
Still, I’m here. For You alone have the words of life. Pour life back into me, Jesus. “
– Natasha Metzler in Pain Redeemed –

Natasha talks about the importance of sharing our sorrows with each other, and of not comparing each other’s burdens. She tells of the transformation that pain has brought in her life, and encourages others to let the fire refine them instead of consume them. It is how and what we live now that counts. We cannot put it of till later, when the circumstances will be better. god wants to talk to us now and not later, for a?reason.

“Therefore I will now allure her. I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her.” Hosea 2:14

God uses our deserts. He is there, too. He redeems the pain.

What I love about this book

– I love that she writes for everybody, not just for those going through the same fire she’s going through.
– Another mayor thing I adore is that she is honest. There are journal entries in the book from in her hardest days. Raw and open, true and painful. The way you and I would think it, write it in our own journals. Not ‘prettified’. Just so painfully real, and a realness in which I see myself. It’s about our heart. Not the issue we struggle with so much, but our way of dealing with it.
– It’s in print! I got the ebook first but I would only have read it once if I wouldn’t have gotten it in print. To have and to hold, you know. And to read once in a while. It ins’t that long so you can do that.

Quotes from Pain Redeemed
?
“a miracle is the?redemption?of pain, not the absolution of it”
“The lie from the enemy that I was ‘all alone’ had been eating away at my insides. It’s his favorite lie to tell. I’ve seen it repeated in countless forms and every time it is just as hideous , just as deadly. If you believe you’re all alone no one can empathize with you and no one can help you pick up the broken pieces of your life. If you believe you’re all alone no one can call you to account for you sin because ‘they don’t understand you pain.
and if you believe you’re all alone, dear friends, no on can give you grace.

It’s a hopeless existence and the only way to fight it is to be humble and brave enough to speak.”

“The idea that my pain sets me apart from the rest of society is another isolation trick by the enemy.”

What Natasha says about her book:

Pain?Redeemed?{when our deepest sorrows meet God}?is my story. It is a gathering of the pieces, some of them still raw and bleeding, and laying them out to be examined. God does not flinch at?pain. Not the way we do. And His presence still leaves me stilled with humbleness.

The heart of?this book?is to redefine our view of?pain. To stare it right in the face and force our eyes to God, who stands fearlessly in the midst.”
